Eleanor's semi-abstract landscape paintings express emotions, memories and responses to the world around her. Unusually for her, this is a Cornish scene, conveyed in soft and muted tones, with a limited palette plus expert use of black contour marks and white highlights.
In her distinctive style, she captures the essence of the rolling landscape, leaving visible brush strokes, layers beneath and making use of mark-making tools and mixed media.
Embracing chance application of paint and combining these elements into a semi-abstract style, she loves big cloudscapes and wild places. Here she manages to combine both the energy and movement of the scene and its calming effect, lulled by the tones she has selected. The overall effect is serene and beautiful.
ABOUT ELEANOR CAMPBELL
Having lived on the west coast of Scotland, with its rugged coastline, then moving to the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, Eleanor has enjoyed the best of both contrasting terrains for inspiration for her landscape painting.
Beyond landscape, Eleanor enjoys producing a variety of imaginative still life art which is often more graphic or realistic in style, using mixed media and painting from life whilst also exploring our material world through her semi-abstract approach.
Eleanor studied for her BA at Glasgow School of Art and, throughout her life, she has followed in the footsteps of her family as artists and creators. She pursued a career of graphic design and illustration and, later in life, returned to focus on her art. She has carried out numerous commissions and exhibits as a full-time painter in the Cotswolds, Cornwall and the Peak District.
She is based in Oxfordshire, in the heart of the Cotswolds.
