Former Cotswolds artist, Emma Clarke, has recently moved to Cornwall where she continues to produce work which is strongly influenced by her pattern-making, design and textile training and her love of rural landscape.
The results are vibrant, graphic and gentle compositions working in limited palettes, where the stitching enhances the landscape features. We have two pairs - summer field views and seed heads, as above.
They are seemingly effortless but actually exceptionally well-composed and executed in perfect detail. Small gems that record the Gloucestershire and Cornish countryside.
She then frames them herself, in good quality wooden frames that she makes and finishes.
ABOUT EMMA CLARKE
Emma grew up in Somerset and studied art from an early age which progressed into completing a degree in Textile Design & Surface Pattern.
Her work is very much influenced by her textile and pattern-making training and uses a variety of media to produce stylised and quirky paintings and prints.
Living in the Cotswolds - and, more latterly, in Cornwall - gives her a wealth of inspiration, such as the patchwork landscape, grasses, wildflowers, rivers and streams.
Her artworks start with sketching on location and then reworking again and again to produce an interpretation. It is often one simple idea or view that is sketched and painted several times - in different ways and using different media - to give the subject its final form.
