Beautiful evocations of the British landscape are a speciality for experienced Cotswolds painter Jane Lampard. She is new to the Gallery this year and we have chosen a variety of her work to represent both her coastal and rural scenes.
"I work mostly in oils which enables me to build up subtle layers of paint to create depth and atmosphere. The play of light on a subject interests me and I aim to seek out subtle and sensitive ways to express my vision. I find loose brushwork is more important to convey a sense of place, rather than employing detail."
She works outside, directly from life, whenever possible, drawing inspiration from the fleeting effects of light and weather patterns as the seasons change: "I feel passionate about recording and preserving our fragile countryside and the beautiful coastline around Britain. As well as my local area of the West Country, I'm drawn to the rugged coast of North Cornwall and the West Coast of Scotland."

"I try to employ the same traditional but loose impressionistic style of these great painters of the past. I work mostly in oils which enables me to build up subtle layers of paint to create depth and atmosphere in my paintings."
Jane runs occasional workshops from her studio in Gloucestershire and has also tutored groups in Venice, the South of France, Andalucia and Morocco. Her work has been exhibited with the Pastel Society, the Royal West of England Academy, the Society of Women Artists as well as several leading provincial galleries. In June 2010 she was Winner of the John Singer Sargent Award.
