Another stunning wild animal painting by the inimitable Grenville Moore. You won't see another one quite like this. It was painted, at the close of 2022, by an artist who loves animals and, in particular, loves wild animals, in this case inspired by his African safari trips.
For those who appreciate realism, just look at the contours on that neck, face and nose and the bristly mane.
And, being Grenville, this is no ordinary animal portait - the background is surreal and gorgeous, based on an English topiary garden. Hardly the natural habitat for a zebra but, we think, this majestic African equine looks very much at home as he passes by, giving us a cursory glance, amidst all that structured greenery.*
Given its grandeur and scale, it's a unique statement piece, measuring just over a full metre square, painted on linen. It would suit either a plain, modern wall space or traditional Georgian-style interior. It would also work wonderfully if acquired with the Greyhounds piece, of the same size and composition, on show with it.
*The intricate garden topiary was actually inspired by Levens Hall in the Lake District, near Kendal.
