For spring and summer 2024 we welcome the colourful and expressive work of Tammy Walters who joins us with some of her vivid wild animals and, especially, her horses. Her passion to create, she says, ‘is as powerful as breathing’: she believes animals are in her spirit and uses painting as her creative voice to give them life.

This exuberant painting is in ink, acrylic and pastel and glows with sensual light, colour and energy - much more so than you can detect in the image above.

The neck of Indian Prince has a burnished bronze appearance, perfectly offset by the brilliant turquoise braids and harness details.

She says: "Horses are definitely one of my prime spirit animals. The colours in this piece were inspired by my trip to India, where I took note of all the beautiful gemstones and silk saris in the market places. The background yellow has the warm glow of their summer sunsets.

"The elegance of this stunning stallion, with his braided mane and bridle decorated with turquoise gemstones, gave me the strong impression of looking at a majestic prince. When I was painting him I almost felt like I was grooming him with my brush strokes. Sometimes, I used my hands to paint him and that feeling and connection were so strong I could almost feel the muscles in his strong stance."
