Chris's superb landscape oil paintings, with all their well-observed detail and delicate coloration, are often based on a limited palette.

She delights in experimenting with paint in this way and achieves harmonious and serene effects, even on a small scale. This is even true when she focuses in on the humble washing line by the garden shed.

“I'm intrigued by light and colour and the beautiful complexities of oil paint.”

There is nostalgia and vintage, inter-war-years appeal to these images - an impression of a simple, functional domestic garden scene,  unblemished by modern ways and beautiful in its pastel pinks and blues.

Chris gained a degree in Fine Art in 1982 and has been painting all her life. She paints still life, landscape and occasional portraits. More recently, she has also branched out into lino prints.

“I'm intrigued by light and colour and the beautiful complexities of oil paint.”

Still life work takes shape in her studio in Stroud; Gloucestershire landscapes are painted out in the field.

She is a member of the prestigious Cheltenham Group of Artists and exhibits in group and solo shows locally and around the country.

Her work is in private and public collections across the UK and she participates in Stroud Open Studios each year. With many years of teaching experience behind her, she also has an extensive knowledge of art materials and expertise in colour mixing.
