This is a series of oil paintings for Spring 2023, all clebrating the glorious new blooms of the season.
.
As ever, they are charmingly composed and beautifully observed - all on a small scale. Louise captures, in miniature, the impact and accuracy of a much larger still life or floral painting as well as the delicacy of fragile petals and leaves. The open lemons and their skins look so real you could imagine squeezing their juicy flesh.
Glorious records of the seasons, depicted in flowers, fruit and eclectic objects. They come in three framed sizes: ideal to be displayed as a series or in a pair.
ABOUT LOUISE HAWKINS
Louise trained in design. Since graduating from Goldsmiths University 1993-1997, her work has been in textiles and, predominantly, in glass. Working alongside her husband in their glass studio in the Cotswolds her glass pieces become progressively more representational and illustrative.
Her lifelong interest in drawing and painting has developed over time into a redirection of focus and she is now painting in oils. She works mostly alla prima and from life.
Drawn to the beauty in everyday life, objects and nature, Louise strives to develop a visual language in paint that communicates something of the essence of the qualities of light, form, colour and atmosphere of a subject. She has a remarkable ability to render surface texture and colour, especially in her small-scale still life works.
